# How to migrate from Read.cv after the shutdown

Read.cv deleted hosted profiles on 16 May 2025. Official export is closed. Here is how to get a live URL and an ATS resume back without waiting for a product that is not coming back.

Perplexity acquired Read.cv in January 2025. New signups stopped on 17 January 2025. The site went read-only on 28 February 2025. On 16 May 2025, Read.cv and Posts.cv were fully wound down and official export closed. If you downloaded a JSON or Next.js zip before that date, keep it. If you did not, you rebuild from LinkedIn, GitHub, screenshots, and any resume PDF you still have. FolioX is the no-code path: one profile publishes at foliox.me/username and exports a single-column ATS PDF. This guide is the rebuild, not a magic import. There is no import because Read.cv no longer serves your data.

## Steps

1. Gather what you still have

Look for a Read.cv export zip (JSON plus media, or a Next.js project), screenshots of the old page, your LinkedIn, GitHub, Dribbble or Figma, and any resume PDF. Official download from read.cv is gone. .cv domains registered through Read.cv were moved to hello.cv in January 2025; you can still manage DNS there. If you have nothing but LinkedIn, that is enough to start.
2. Create a FolioX account and autofill from a PDF

Sign up at foliox.me. If you have a resume PDF, upload it on signup so experience, education, and contact fill in. If you only have LinkedIn, copy the summary and roles by hand. Do not wait for a Read.cv importer. It does not exist.
3. Rebuild About, projects, and proof

Write a short About in your own voice. Add 3 to 5 projects with problem, your role, stack, and an outcome. Link GitHub repos or live demos. Add the GitHub profile card if you used that on Read.cv. Keep client names and secrets off the page. Match the facts you will put on the resume.
4. Publish the live URL

Publish at foliox.me/your-username. Open it on a phone. That URL is what you put in applications. On Pro you can point a custom domain. If you still have a .cv domain at hello.cv, you can aim DNS at FolioX on Pro or keep it elsewhere.
5. Export the ATS resume from the same profile

Download the single-column PDF from FolioX. Check that the portfolio URL sits in the header. This is the piece Read.cv never shipped. One update now changes both the site and the PDF.
6. Replace every old read.cv link

Update LinkedIn (headline, featured, contact), GitHub bio, email signature, Notion, and any applications already in flight. Search your sent mail for read.cv. Dead links cost interviews. Optional: if you still have the Next.js export, you can deploy it on Vercel or GitHub Pages as an archive, but make FolioX the URL you share.

## Tips

- Do not hunt for a live Read.cv page: Hosted profiles were deleted on 16 May 2025. Wayback Machine snapshots are incomplete. Rebuild from sources you control.
- The Next.js zip is optional: Self-hosting the export is for people who already downloaded it and like maintaining a static site. It does not give you an ATS resume. Most job seekers should skip it.
- Match resume and portfolio on day one: The same three outcomes on both documents. Recruiters notice when the PDF and the URL disagree.

## FAQ

### Can I import Read.cv into FolioX?

No automated import. Read.cv no longer hosts your data. Upload a resume PDF to autofill, then add projects. If you saved the JSON export, use it as a checklist while you type.

### I never exported. Am I stuck?

No. LinkedIn plus GitHub plus memory is a normal rebuild. Most people finish a publishable FolioX profile in an afternoon.

### What happened to Read.cv?

Perplexity acquired the company in January 2025. Read.cv and Posts.cv wound down on a published schedule and fully shut down on 16 May 2025. There is no successor product from that team for hosted profiles.

### Is FolioX free after I migrate?

The public portfolio at foliox.me/username stays free. Pro is $9/month or $79 lifetime for custom domain and analytics. 7-day Pro trial, no credit card.
